A Moment of Shared Hope
Tuesday, September 23rd, marked a special and hopeful moment for the Levera Pond Protected Area (LPPA). The Grenada Sustainable Development Trust Fund (GSDTF) team was proud to welcome our donor partners from the Agence Française de Dévisse (AFD) to witness the incredible post-Hurricane Beryl recovery work unfolding at Grenada’s only Ramsar site—a wetland of international importance.
The delegation, including Mr. Quentin Lajus (Team Leader, AFD), Ms. Shanna Emmanuel (Program Officer), and Mr. Simon Delage (Advisor, Environmental Sustainability), saw firsthand how partnership and dedication are driving Grenada’s conservation efforts forward.
Milestones in Restoration: Science guiding the way
The timing of the visit was perfect, coinciding with two critical achievements that will shape the future of Levera:
- Completion of the Mangrove Assessment: This vital study provides a detailed roadmap for upcoming replanting efforts. It ensures that every action we take is scientifically grounded, supporting a healthier and more resilient coastal ecosystem.
- Ongoing Ecological Assessment: A broader assessment is currently underway, designed to answer fundamental questions about restoring and protecting this unique coastal treasure for generations to come.
The Heart of the Project: Our People and Partners
Behind these technical milestones are the people who make it all possible. A special thank you to Ms. Claudette Pitt and Ms. Paula Lewis, whose expertise and dedication are steering the SPECTO team. Their unwavering commitment is not only advancing Grenada’s national biodiversity goals but also fortifying our international conservation commitments.
Building a Resilient Future, Together
This project, made possible through the generous support of the Agence Française de Développement (AFD) and the Caribbean Biodiversity Fund, is writing a new chapter for Levera. A chapter where:
- Ecosystems thrive
- Biodiversity flourishes
- Local communities benefit from a healthier, more resilient natural environment
Together, we are ensuring that Levera Pond Protected Area remains a source of national pride and a beacon of sustainable development.
