There is no better way to promote the GSDTF’s efforts in biodiversity conservation education in Grenada than by sharing the Grenada Biodiversity 101 Magazine.
This educational resource was made possible through the Caribbean Regional Architecture for Biodiversity Project (CRAB). This project is funded by several key organizations: (1) The French Fund for Global Environment (Le Fonds Français pour l’Environnement Mondial/FFEM), which promotes innovation for environmental protection and sustainable socio-economic development in developing countries; (2) The French Development Agency (Agence Française de Développement/AFD), which contributes to implementing France’s policies on development and international solidarity, focusing on areas such as climate, biodiversity, peace, education, urban planning, health, and governance; and (3) The Caribbean Biodiversity Fund (CBF), a regional environmental fund established in 2012 that utilizes a flexible structure to implement innovative solutions and consolidate resource mobilization in the Caribbean through various financial instruments.
In 2023, the CRAB Project issued its first call for interns. Ms. Alyssa White, a graduate student in the Natural Resources Management program at the UWI Cave Hill Campus, was awarded this internship. To further her work in Natural Resources Management, she chose Grenada for her internship, with the GSDTF as her host organization.
The primary goal of her internship was to create a public awareness and conservation knowledge tool aimed at implementing focused and evidence-based biodiversity conservation strategies within mainland Grenada.
Ms. White was ably supported by her Academic Advisor Dr. Julian Walcott and Ms. Tenika Griffith for GIS Specialist of the Caribbean Protected Areas Gateway, Ministry of Agriculture & Lands, Forestry, Marine Resources & Cooperatives Forestry Division, Marine Resources Division, Land Use Division, Ministry of Climate Resilience, Renewable Energy and the Environment, Grenada Coral Reef Foundation SusGren (Grenadines NGO) The Nature Conservancy in the Caribbean (Grenada), Specto Dr. Stephen Nimrod, and other key Stakeholders and community members.
Ms. White’s contribution has successfully encapsulated Grenada’s rich biodiversity. To view our internship documentary and access the magazine visit us at: https://gsdtf.org
