Best Practices Farmers Movement Inc.’s project is a pilot research-based with the overall objective of sustainable livelihoods and agriculture through the introduction of innovative farming technology.

The research will test Porous Alpha to determine its impact on soil water retention capacity and gradual release of water in arid areas and or periods of excessively low rainfall. If effective, this technology can lead to an increased level of production in arid areas and higher crop yield while reducing the demand for a constant traditional water supply.

This research project is collaboratively monitored by the Caribbean Agricultural Research and Development Institute (CARDI), the Ministry of Agriculture and the Grenada Sustainable Development Trust Fund (GSDTF).

Innovation

The research project is the first of its kind in Grenada with a multi-focus on increased agricultural output/yield, sustainable agricultural practices and livelihood enhancement.

Replicability and Scalability

The outcome of this research project has the ability to be adopted and implemented to improve farming techniques in both rural and urban Grenada.
