The Project focuses on the conservation of marine, terrestrial, eco-development, eco-tourism and sustainable livelihood.

The primary objective of the project is the development and maintenance of historical sites (underwater sculpture, Fedon Rebellion site, Amerindian settlements etc.) in the vicinity of Dragon Bay. This includes the implementation and provision of a visitor’s management plan, capacity-building training, consultancy services, and the creation of signage for information and direction purposes and information documents that include brochures and manuals.

It also includes the installation of physical structures on the location/site so that visitors and the community will be able to safely access and experience the natural environment. Visitors will have the opportunity to engage in a variety of terrestrial, marine and eco-tourism activities with the experience of a “home away from home” leisure approach.

 Financial Sustainability

This project will be a living assignment that can be adjusted over time. Financial sustainability lies with the fees generated from the diverse activities available at the location.

Collaborative Opportunities

As a sole community-based organization, members of the community will receive capacity-building workshops in areas of soft and practical skills (tour guide training and certification) to improve service provision.

With a variety of historical sites and marine protected areas in neighbouring communities, the Organization intends to collaborate with community groups to preserve and maintain its natural resources through the project initiative.

Replicability

This project also provides opportunities to develop standards associated with terrestrial area management which can be adopted and or adapted and applied to other similar localities.

Empowering Fisherfolks to Develop their Product for Alternative Markets

This project is geared toward sustainable livelihood development by utilizing solar drying technology. With the abundance of fish in and out of the peak season, the cooperative is introducing this drying technology as the first step, followed by salting to increase shelf life. The process also increases the value added to the fish for marketability. The Co-operative’s main objective is to meet the needs of the Fisherfolks in the community, by empowering them (males and females) in fish processing for local and international markets.  Food safety training, procurement of a commercial solar dehydrator and weighing, packaging and labelling materials are some of the items that are paramount to executing the project initiative.
